Scrubs on the Run at Ironman 2026

A terrific trio of clinical staff from Dorset County Hospital have completed the epic Iron Man Weymouth challenge and raised £1,220 for the Emergency and Critical Care Appeal.

The team, also known as ‘Scrubs on the run’ all work at Dorset County Hospital in various roles and departments, and decided to take on one element of the triathlon each. Dan, who completed the 1.2-mile swim, is a pain specialist nurse. Kate who ran 13.1 miles, is physiotherapist working in Critical Care. Becky, who completed the 56-mile bike ride is an advanced nurse practitioner for the Critical Care Outreach team.

Scrubs on the run said,

“Within our job roles we see first-hand the incredible work that goes into caring for patients during the most difficult moments of their lives. The teams in these departments work tirelessly to respond to emergencies, support recovery, and provide compassionate care when it is needed the most. Through this fundraiser we hope to support vital equipment, resources and services so they can continue delivering the highest level of care to everyone who relies on them.”

After months of training, the team completed the challenge on Sunday 20th September, in 7 hours. Becky said, “We are just over the moon. It was an amazing day and a great experience. Everyone in the team showed up and give it everything. We are so overwhelmed with the generosity shown for such a great cause and we feel proud to represent our local hospital.

Dorset County Hospital is building a new £100 million Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit, with the main construction funded from the Government’s New Hospital Programme. It is the largest investment in hospital facilities for the West and North Dorset region in 25 years.

The Emergency and Critical Care Appeal has a target of £2.5 million to fund enhancements such as state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for the new development, which is due to open in 2027.
