Casterbridge Rotary donation to Cariology
An donation of £2,369.75 from the Casterbridge Rotary Club in Dorchester to the Cardiology Department at DCH has been used to purchase an Ambulatory ECG monitor to benefit patients.
Janet Hewitt, President of Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary said:
I had the privilege to be the president of Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary for 12 months in 2024/25. My chosen cause was to help the cardiac patients at Dorchester County Hospital. During the year we ran several events to raise money for the department. The people of our town and the villages were so generous. It was a great pleasure to hand over the funds that will help all concerned.”
Dr Joanne Jones, Cardiac Physiology Manager at DCH said,
The Cardiac Physiology Team would like to extend a huge thank you to the Dorchester Rotary club and all those who contributed to their fund-raising efforts to support our service at Dorset County Hospital. The generous funds, which have been donated to our service, are being used to purchase an Ambulatory ECG monitor as requested by the club. These monitors are worn by patients to record their heart rhythm over a pre-defined duration. This can provide us with an ECG recording between 1 to 7 days to help diagnose heart rhythm abnormalities. Patients can be affected by heart rhythm abnormalities in a variety of ways from having intermittent palpitations, to abnormal rhythms which can be high risk for Stroke to more life-threatening abnormalities where the heart either stops temporarily or the rhythm is so abnormal that patients lose consciousness and collapse. By wearing a monitor, we can obtain recordings which can be analysed and reports generated to patient care. The new model of monitor is very light weight, easy to use and we can fit them to patients of all ages from infants to the elderly. This makes the diagnostic tool extremely useful for the Cardiologists to treat heart rhythm abnormalities appropriately. The funds raised will help provide access to diagnostic testing in the “heart” of our West Dorset District General Hospital”
