Leaving a lasting legacy with Gifts in Wills

One of the most wonderful things you can do in your lifetime is leave an affordable gift in your Will to help benefit patients and staff at Dorset County Hospital for future generations.

Gifts in Wills enable us to future-proof Dorset County Hospital, making a huge difference to patient care and staff wellbeing by benefitting future service users and employees for years to come; meaning you can truly leave a lasting legacy.

Making a gift to your local hospital can be affordable and isn’t something you’ll need to give in your lifetime. By leaving your legacy, you are helping to fund important enhancements to patient care and staff wellbeing, such as new equipment or training opportunities. You may like to leave a percentage of your estate, a specific amount, or even a personal belonging such as a piece of artwork or jewellery. Every single gift, large or small, Will make a difference.

As with any generous donation we receive, you can choose which department, ward or healthcare area it will benefit – you can even specify equipment or facilities it will fund. Your name will be recognised alongside your donation; acknowledging the generosity of our supporters is very important to us, because it is important to you.

We also offer a Free Will Writing Service (link to Free Will Page in text) with Kitson and Trotman solicitors in Dorset, so you can have your Will written or updated, at no cost to you and with no obligation.

Supporter story

Mr Brynley House had expressed an interest using the Free Will service in 2023; his intention was to leave his entire estate to Dorset County Hospital Charity. Jodi Hibbard, our Head of Fundraising, had spoken with Mr House on several occasions to discuss his wishes and to understand exactly how he wanted his legacy to benefit Dorset County Hospital. Mr House stated that he wanted to leave a gift to give something back for the care he and his family had received at DCH over many years – stressing that he wanted to make a significant difference to the areas of the hospital with the greatest need at the time of his death.

In April 2024, DCH Charity were informed of the sad passing of Mr House. A substantial amount will be put towards the Emergency and Critical Care Appeal, funding enhanced facilities and equipment for the new Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit at DCH, with the remaining amount being put towards the General Fund to benefit other areas of the hospital. This incredibly generous legacy will improve healthcare for patients, and improve facilities for staff and visitors for generations to come.
