Volunteering with Dorset County Hospital Charity

Volunteering is a wonderful way to give your time and expertise to a cause close to your heart. There are lots of reasons our volunteers get involved: to be social, learn new skills or simply to do their bit for something they care about.

Small charities like us depend on the generosity of volunteers to allow us to carry out public engagement work such as attending and running events locally. 2026 is an exciting year for us as we celebrate 30 years of fundraising for Dorset County Hospital, and the continuation of our most ambitious Appeal to date: The Emergency and Critical Care Appeal.

Why do we need you?

We attend local events regularly every year to spread the word about our work, meet our supporters and hopefully gain new ones. In 2026, our 30th Anniversary year, we are lucky enough to have two major events in Dorset which are raising money directly for our Appeal – and we need your help! In August 2026, The wonderful Buckham Fair is returning, and the Maiden Castle Sunflower Trail will be once again raising funds for the Appeal with a month of even bigger and better events and engagement opportunities. This is just a taster of some of the exciting events we’ll be involved with throughout 2026.

Whether you already volunteer for Dorset County Hospital and want to support the charity’s fundraising, or you’re completely new to volunteering and looking to try something different, everyone is welcome.

There are lots of ways to help our charity, and we’d love to meet you and talk about how we can use your skills, ideas and enthusiasm to help raise awareness of our cause. We are here to raise funds to make healthcare even better for staff and patients at Dorset County Hospital now and for generations to come – and we’d like you to be part of it.

Cattistock Show stand Summer 2025

We began volunteering for DCH charity while we both worked at the hospital and continued after we retired. Volunteering with DCHC fits in very well with our lifestyle and we can attend many different sorts of events throughout the year. It has enabled us to support a very worthwhile cause while at the same time having fun, enjoying meeting new people and spreading the word.”
